Unity – Embrace the Duality Benevolently

👩‍🦰 Living in SA, apart from finding myself fascinated by the colorful arts, especially the Ndebele one , it also reminds me cherishing my own Taiwanese & Hakka culture. These two round artworks (diameter 1m) are my reflection and respect towards different cultures as well as expectations of unity and harmony in each one of us, family, the society, and the world.

⚪️ Why paint on the circular shaped canvas?
In Chinese & Taiwanese culture, the circle stands for “fulfilled”, “unity”, “oneness”, “perfection” .
The process of something coming full circle that bears the most importance. Family members get together to celebrate the day when the moon is at its fullest (Mid-Autumn Festival). Two halves of a broken round mirror symbolizes the reunion of spouses who were separated. Yin and Yang forms a perfect circle divided by a sinuous line (Taichi symbol), and stands for the oneness of conflicting forces inside everything.

🌈May we embrace duality of yin & yang in our human body, family, society and the world harmoniously.

🌞🧘Among the Incas, gold was believed to be the sweat of the sacred sun (Inti). It’s also a symbol of masculine. 🌙🧘‍♀️Silver was believed to be the tears of the moon ( Mama Quilla). It’s also a symbol of feminine. #chinesepaintingtechnique

🧘‍♀️🌙The female, feminine, is embraced by the gold, the sun, Inti and the masculine harmoniously. In this balance , women still can be themselves to shine their feminine and embrace the masculine within as well as bloom resiliently and perseverantly like plum blossoms growing from the South.

🔥In the South, the element is fire. Cleanse and purify the old, toxic believes about female / oneself courageously which were cultivated from the culture, society, family through the fire to transform and renew them.

🌸The plum blossom – In both Chinese and Taiwanese culture, the plum blossom is a symbol for resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity, because plum blossoms often bloom most vibrantly even amidst the harsh winter snow.

🌞🧘The male ,masculine, is embraced by the silver, the moon, Mama Quilla and feminine harmoniously. In this balance, men still can be themselves to shine their masculine and embrace their feminine within as well as grow independently and powerfully like pine trees growing from the East. #chinesepaintingtechnique

💦 In the East, the element is water. Allow the water to wash away the old/toxic believes about men / oneself which were cultivated from the culture, society, family and bring balance.

🌲The pine is a symbol of longevity, virtue and solitude in both Chinese and Taiwanese culture. The pine is also associated with masculinity and power.

🌈May we embrace both feminine & masculine, yin & yang in our human body, family, society and the world benevolently.
