“Paint Instead of Pain”
was the theme when I led the Yoga & Art classes and inspiring some of the children to create 15 murals at the center. I utilized art creating as a therapeutic & healing tool to help the children. The sky served as our classroom, the soil acted as our air-dry clay, and the chopped wood waste became our Lego.
Serving as a volunteer for nearly a year taught me to be humble, grateful, and cherish what I have. Mama Africa, with its land and the pure hearts and smiles of the children, saved and healed me – a confused soul at that time.
Glancing at these photos, which had been stored in the corner of my drawer for several years, immediately took me back to the nearly year-long volunteer journey with the children, the people, and the land.
I have decided to share a bit of that loving, funny, and challenging time period, hoping it will inspire you and bring a smile to your face.
